My favorite genre of music is Old School Rap. These artists lived in an era where music production was starting to evolve into the digital realm. Most of these tracks have mastered the art of sampling from popular R&B, ballads, jazz, and funk songs.

A little flavor is added with their basic rhythms and experimental synthesizers. What really places the icing on the cake are their narrative and the conviction they speak with. Every verse they spit is filled with their emotion; it sounds like they have been in the situations they speak of. In most cases, their background supports what they say.

Their music captures a time that was filled with turbulence for African-American people who faced social/civil injustices and the escalation of gang activity due to the mentality of having no other viable options. These music artists found a way to rise above it by presenting their stories to the public despite the raunchiness.

Even though they had everything going for them, some artists' violent lifestyles ended their careers too early through their death. New rappers cannot bring this same feel because things are more progressive now and their cadence is totally different; the mumbling and lack of creativity does not help either. In short, bring the oldies back or X is gonna give it to ya.
